Today we dissected a cow's eye. Alyssa has just finished studying eyes in science and Megan will be doing a bunch of dissecting for Biology this semester, so we decided to try it out and see if I could handle teaching this part of school. I bought 4 eyes - one for each girl and one for Autumn. Joy was pretty grossed out by the whole thing. We went through quite a few latex gloves. After the initial ewwww, we really had a bit of fun with it. The girls cut away the excess fat, found the optic nerve, cut away the cornea, saw
the structure of the iris muscle, saw the retina (with the reflective properties that an animal has), and played with the lens. All in all, it was a success.
